SSG-6-21 – Gender Training of the Trainers Course (GToT)

September 6, 2021 @ 09:00 - September 17, 2021 @ 17:00

Background

The subject Course is a direct result of continued cooperation between the Nordic Centre for Gender in Military Operations (NCGM), the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia and RACVIAC – Centre for Security Cooperation. The importance of the gender aspect in military operations had prompted NATO, as well as other national and multinational defence organisations to address, regulate and implement the integration of gender perspective both on the duty level and on the level of participation in Peace Support Operations (PSO). Implementation of UNSCR 1325 and the integration of gender perspective and how they relate to operational effectiveness in training for use in garrison and at deployed locations during operations, missions and exercises, became one of the responsibilities for all NATO members and their partners and it is  consistent with EU and UN standards and action plans.

Purpose and Objectives

The Course will enable instructors and trainers to successfully plan, conduct and evaluate education, training and exercises on how to integrate gender perspective within one’s own respective functional area of expertise. The Course also provides participants with the knowledge of frameworks and guidelines regulating gender in military operations as well as skills and competencies required to effectively plan, conduct and evaluate training of security sector personnel in both national and international context.

Participation

The maximum number is limited to 28 participants – military, police officers and civilian equivalents from security sector institutions. This limitation has been determined in accordance with the applied Course organization and methodology. Individual participation quotas will be established via the Course Invitation Letter. Selection and nomination of participants should be based on the current or future duty-related criteria exclusively.

Methodology

The Course is going to be executed in accordance with the NATO certified NCGM Programme, consisting of advanced distributed learning, lectures, discussions, syndicate work and individual case studies. The working language will be English with the minimum requirement of STANAG 6001 Level 2.
