Director of RACVIAC, H.E. Ambassador Constantin – Mihail Grigorie, hosted the United States Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) representatives Mr. Richard Spencer, US DTRA Division Chief, EUCOM Operations Division and Mr. William Sosnowski, Regional Engagement Analyst, Proliferation Security Initiative, DTRA on 12th April 2024.
The DTRA delegation was briefed on RACVIAC work, Programme for 2024 and plans for enhancing cooperation during the upcoming period. Since the founding of RACVIAC USA has been constantly involved in the Centre’s work and it has been an Observer since 2003. DTRA is a sponsor and a partner in a number of C-WMD activities as well as CTST Pillar activities connected to the cyber domain and the Arms Control area (CSE Pillar).
Ambassador Grigorie informed the guests about the activities focused on counter proliferation and radiological and nuclear security that RACVIAC will organize this year.
Besides that, the future of four regional projects aimed at enabling regional collaboration was discussed as well as possibilities of introducing training activities supported by DTRA in RACVIAC Programme.
During the meeting it was stressed that RACVIAC is keen on sustaining collaborative endeavours in the upcoming years, particularly concerning the ideas and support in fostering engagement of South East European countries when it comes to regional collaboration and it was concluded that it should try introducing activities focused on education and training.
Mr. Spencer expressed gratitude for RACVIAC hospitality and emphasized the significance of the C-WMD Network, highlighting its distinctiveness in bringing together parties committed to transparent collaboration on various C-WMD-related issues.
Furthermore, Mr. Spencer stated that DTRA supports RACVIAC’s endeavors in promoting regional security cooperation and dialogue, especially in the field of counter proliferation.
Ambassador Grigorie emphasized his confidence that cooperation with DTRA will continue for the benefit of all RACVIAC Members and agreed to invest efforts in joint ventures in future projects.
