  • The “Challenges and Requirements for Effective Cyber Security in SEE Workshop” starts in RACVIAC

The Workshop „Challenges and Requirements for Effective Cyber Security in SEE” is being held on 19-21 November 2023 in RACVIAC. The event is jointly organized by RACVIAC – Centre for Security Cooperation and the Military Academy “General Mihailo Apostolski” – Skopje as a part of a 5-year Project, „Strengthening SEE Resilience in Cyber Security Against Hybrid Threats”. The overall idea of this research project is to enable critical thinking and an analytical approach in countering hybrid threats via cyberspace and share good practices, views and experiences on the subject in the hope that at the end we will see progress in the field of cyber security in SEE.

The participation in the activity demonstrates the regional countries’ readiness to initiate the process of building their own cyber and hybrid resilient societies through regional cooperation while complementing Euro-Atlantic guidance, principles and standards in the context of building a resilient society to cyber and hybrid-based threats.

The purpose is to bring together participants (policy makers, military decision makers and economic, legal and technical experts) who will be ready to share regional experience and cooperation examples/initiatives in countering hybrid threats via cyberspace, good practices, views and experiences on the subject. The presented results will be used as a reference for further activities.

The Workshop Opening remarks were delivered by the Dean of the Military Academy of North Macedonia, CoL Mitko Bogdanoski, PhD and RADM Predrag Stipanović, Deputy Director of RACVIAC – Centre for Security Cooperation.

RADM Stipanović thanked CoL Bogdanoski and the Military Academy “General Mihailo Apostolski” from Skopje for the generous support in the project „Strengthening SEE Resilience in Cyber Security Against Hybrid Threats”, which is a clear sign, he stressed, of joint partnership in the framework of cyber security. RADM Stipanović also emphasized that this is the first in a row of events in the process of building a better and safer future, not only for us but the next generations too: “Events such as this one, bedsides the fact that they are a great opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience, also present a great opportunity to create a network among experts in the field of cyber security.”

RADM Stipanović, furthermore, emphasized the fact that from the very beginning the subject of cyber security has been recognized by RACVIAC as a huge challenge: “RACVIAC in its strategy underlined cyber security as one of the subjects that should be a part of the Organization’s curriculum. Since 2007 RACVIAC has organized several events covering different topics related to cybercrime and cyber security threats, vulnerabilities in cyberspace, cyber defense strategies and policies, impact of cybercrime in the economy environment, etc.”

The Dean of the Military Academy “General Mihailo Apostolski” from Skopje, CoL Mitko Bogdanoski, in his Opening remarks underlined the significance of combating prevalent cyber threats in South East Europe (SEE).

This event highlights the strength of the partnership between the Military Academy “General Mihailo Apostolski” and RACVIAC, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing evolving cyber challenges in SEE. Previous collaborative workshops underscored their dedication to fortifying cybersecurity strategies.

The common aim of all events in this joint project is to enable participants to exchange knowledge and experience as well as to facilitate networking among them, and to raise awareness of the importance of cooperation in response to cyber threats on the national and regional level.
