During the South-East Europe Defense Ministerial (SEDM) meeting held in Tirana on 5-6 November 2024 the Director of RACVIAC – Centre for Security Cooperation, H.E. Ambassador Constantin-Mihail Grigorie, held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Slovenia, H.E. Borut Sajovic.
Ambassador Grigorie expressed his deep appreciation for Slovenia’s long-standing commitment to RACVIAC, recognizing the country’s significant contributions since its early days as an Associate Member. Slovenia has played an active role in RACVIAC, seconding personnel to key positions within the Organization, including Activity Managers in Cooperative Security Environment (CSE) Pillar and later on Programme Managers in Security Sector Governance (SSG) Pillar. Although Slovenia has not had a representative in RACVIAC since 2017, it has continued its engagement through expert participation in various activities.
Ambassador Grigorie invited Slovenia to deepen its involvement in the Centre’s mission to promote dialogue, collaboration, and mutual understanding on security issues in South-Eastern Europe by considering the possibility of becoming a full Member of RACVIAC. In the same vein Director of RACVIAC expressed interest in seeing a representative of Slovenia as the Centre’s member of staff.
The Director also briefed Minister Sajovic on the implementation of RACVIAC 2024 Programme and shared the details of the upcoming agenda.
Minister Sajovic demonstrated a positive attitude regarding the Centre’s activities and reaffirmed Slovenia’s strong support for RACVIAC, emphasizing its essential role in fostering regional trust and cooperation. He thanked for the proposals and agreed to continue the dialogue on the future involvement of Slovenia in the activities of the Centre.
