On the margins of the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) Meeting in Tirana RACVIAC – Centre for Security Cooperation Director, H.E. Ambassador Constantin-Mihail Grigorie, held a meeting with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Anatolie Nosatîi. During the meeting Republic of Moldova’s enduring relationship with RACVIAC was underscored and opportunities to bolster Republic of Moldova’s role within the Organization in response to evolving regional security dynamics were explored.
Ambassador Grigorie acknowledged Republic of Moldova’s longstanding and valued history in RACVIAC, dating back to its initial engagement as a core Member in 2004. Republic of Moldova’s early contributions, including the secondment of three senior officers to RACVIAC Security Sector Governance (SSG) Pillar, highlighted its commitment to fostering regional stability and security.
Throughout its engagement Republic of Moldova has actively participated in RACVIAC governance, notably when taking on a leadership role in the Multinational Advisory Group (MAG) meetings. In 2007/2008 Republic of Moldova served as Chair of the MAG and successfully hosted a meeting in Chisinau in April 2008.
As of 2010 Republic of Moldova has a status of an Observer in RACVIAC and has continued to contribute meaningfully to the Centre’s objectives.
Republic of Moldova is an active participant in RACVIAC Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (C-WMD) Network. Ambassador Grigorie commended Republic of Moldova’s commitment to this critical initiative, noting that Republic of Moldova’s active involvement in addressing pressing security challenges aligns closely with RACVIAC mission of tackling contemporary threats through regional cooperation.
Reflecting on last year’s discussions at the SEDM Ministerial Meeting in Ankara, Ambassador Grigorie invited Minister Nosatîi to consider expanding Republic of Moldova’s role in RACVIAC. He extended an invitation to explore pathways to enhanced engagement, including the status of a full Member or Associate Member.
Minister Nosatîi appreciated the role of RACVIAC devoted to fostering dialogue and cooperation on security matters expressing the interest of increasing the participation of Republic of Moldova in the activities of the Centre. He thanked for the Director of RACVIAC proposals and agreed to continue the dialogue on the concrete future involvement of Republic of Moldova in the work of the Centre.
